Robert Ivy Rightfully Bags Lifetime Achievement Award

This latest recipient of the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award is none other than Robert Ivy. Ivy is the CEO and executive vice president of the American Institute of Architects. The award issued by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters (MIAL), is a first for an individual within the architecture industry, and it seeks to recognize and honor art patrons and artists from Mississippi who create extraordinary works of art. President of MIAL Nancy LaForge acknowledged Robert Ivy’s contribution in increasing accessibility of architecture to the public in Mississippi. LaForge added that the award placed Robert Ivy on his rightful place as an author, commentator, and writer of architecture.

The president of AIA Carl Elefante mentioned that Robert was a deserving individual to bag the award. Robert Ivy has managed to expand the influence and global presence of AIA since the beginning of his tenure in 2011. Currently, AIA is at its highest level of membership since its inception 160 years ago.

In the year 1996, Robert became the Chief Editor of Architectural Record, a publication he helped popularize to become the most widely read journal on architecture worldwide. He then became the editorial director and Vice President of McGraw-Hill Construction Media including SNAP, GreenSource, Architectural Record China, ENR Constructor, Sweets and HQ Magazine. While at the helm of Architectural Record, Robert saw the publication win many publishing industry accolades among them the American Society of Magazine Editors National Magazine Award for General Excellence and the premier Magazine Journalism Award, Seven Ozzies for Folio Design Awards, the MPA Digital award for Website of the Year 2008 and 26 Jesse H. Neal Awards.

In 2009, Robert Ivy was the recipient of The Crain Award which is America Business Media’s topmost accolade for an individual. He has also served as a principal at Dean & Ivy and was also a critic for many national publications on architecture. He was also a juror for the selection of Frank Gehry to design the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Memorial.
