The American Institute of Architects Advocacies

AIA or American Institute of Architects is an association composed of licensed architects in the United States, with a central office in Washington D.C. The organization was established in 1857 by a group of thirteen architects in New York City because there were no licensing laws for individuals who finished architecture at that time in the U.S., so anybody can assert that they are architects.

The original members of the AIA founding group included Leopold Eidlitz, Richard Morris Hunt, Jacob Wrey Mould, Richard M. Upjohn, Charles Babcock, Henry Dudley, Edward Gardiner, Fred A. Petersen, John Welch, Joseph Wells and Henry W. Cleaveland. Richard Upjohn was the first president of AIA. As of February 23, 1857, the group decided to invite 16 more well-known architects to be part of the organization with the inclusion of Calvert Vaux, Alexander Jackson Davis, and Thomas U. Walter.

By March 10, 1857, the constitution and by-laws were drawn for the New York Society of Architects. The group’s name was later changed to American Institute of Architects as suggested by Thomas U. Walter. The certificate of incorporation was filed on April 13, 1857, and two days later on April 15, 1857, the new constitution was signed by the members. Amendment of the constitution was done after a year, and soon architects from other cities were requesting to join the AIA during the 1860s. As the 1880s rolled in chapters have been established St. Louis, Baltimore, Chicago, Indianapolis, Rhode Island, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Albany, Boston, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia. By 2008, the American Institute of Architects has over 300 chapters nationwide.

On February 1, 2011, the AIA assigned FAIA Robert Ivy as its new Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. Having made a name for himself in the architectural industry, Robert Ivy held various positions related to the architect profession, namely: Editorial Director/Vice President of McGraw-Hill Construction, Principal of Ivy Architects, Vice President/Editorial Director for McGraw-Hill Construction, managing partner for Dean/Dale, Dean and Ivy, AIA Board of Directors (1990s).

Ivy received the Crane Award and was recognized as Master Architect by Alpha Rho Chi in 2009 and 2010 respectively. The awards given were acknowledgments of Robert Ivy’s dedication to the architectural profession as he is an advocate on a myriad of significant government, social and environmental concerns that affects the architectural industry.

In his new capacity as AIA President, Ivy will oversee the main office’s operations located in Washington D.C. He would likewise address the concerns of the organization about practice and design. Part of his responsibility would similarly be- to impart the AIA voice to demonstrate the significance of design, along with improving the public’s outlook of the architect profession as a whole.

Lacey Issues Harsh Words Against Arpaio After Trump Pardon

The convicted former sheriff Joe Arpaio was formally pardoned by Trump, with the decision handed down recently by Susan R. Bolton, U.S. District Judge.

This move was not surprising to those who are following the story. The former sheriff was convicted last July for charges of criminal contempt when he ignored the order of a federal judge that stemmed from a lawsuit in 2007 for racial profiling. He was supposed to be sentenced a few weeks before.

This recent development was totally unacceptable to Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey. In reaction to the pardon, Lacey said that Rex Tillerson was right in saying that Trump’s pardon of Arpaio proves that he is a moron.

Lacey added that Arpaio is a sheriff that revels in racism and torture. He also referred to the mutilated bodies and corpses that came out of Arpaio’s jail.

The story of Larkin and Lacey against Arpaio goes a long way. Larkin and Lacey were co-owners of the Phoenix New Times. They were very critical of the criminal activities that Arpaio, the former sheriff of Maricopa County has been committing in his jurisdiction for more than two decades.

New times were running news items and articles exposing and condemning these shady activities of the former sheriff. This caused Arpaio to set his eyes on the two, and their local newspaper. Learn more about Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey: and

Among the criminal acts that the two claim that Arpaio has committed in his tenure as sheriff are brutal conditions inside prison cells. The sheriff even called his jail as a concentration camp. The sheriff, according to Lacey and Larkin is also guilty of causing inmate suicides and beating deaths. Over $100 million representing jail funds were illegally diverted as well, claimed the two.

There are also countless sex-crimes, many of them involving children, their investigations botched up by non-existent or poor investigations they said.

The sheriff also harassed Latinos which resulted in the class action suit called Melendres v. Arpaio which ended up with the sheriff’s criminal conviction. And on and on the list goes according to Lacey and Larkin.

The expose of New Times must have caught the ire of Arpaio and he ordered his armed deputies, the Selective Enforcement Unit, to get hold of the two. Lacey and Larkin were taken from their homes at Phoenix and brought to Arpaio’s jail on Oct. 18, 2007.

Actually, the two were incarcerated in two separate jails. However, there came out a large public outcry about the incident and Arpaio was forced to release the two in less than 24 hours.

Many observers say that Lacey and Larkin were illegally detained by Arpaio. The former sheriff and his SEU violated the First Amendment rights of the two, they claim. This started the long and protracted legal fight between Lacey and Larkin against Arpaio. It resulted in the ruling of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2012 saying that the two were arrested illegally and without probable cause.

That ruling states that Arpaio and his SEU were public officials who ordered the urgent arrests of their critics. Even with the pardon handed down by Judge Bolton, the culpability of Arpaio with regards to the crime he has committed against Lacey and Larkin cannot be erased.

Rocketship Education: Lessons Learned Over The Years It Is Running

Some people say that the government really cares about the educational system of the country, but only by the skin of its teeth. This means that it is barely doing anything that can structurally address the problems of the deficiencies in the educational framework of the public education system.

This means that there has to be other alternatives today. One of the brilliant and most responsive alternatives discovered today by passionate educators is Rocketship Education, which is a charter school that right now is the pioneer of K-5 Personalized Learning. But what is it?

Lessons Learned

The K-5 Education System from Rocketship Education is essentially focused on elementary education and helping parents get the most quality public education for their children at the lowest cost. Co-founder and CEO of Rocketship Education, Preston Smith, publicly explained what Rocketship Education is about by highlighting in an article from The 74 Million the different lessons the school has learned in over the 10 years that it is helping communities address the issues of marginalized students.

Some of the lessons learned by Rocketship Education is the fact that personalized learning should always start at home. Sure, the charter school has made headlines in advocating for technology integration that helps bridge the gap between parents and schools, but Rocketship learned that it is their annual home visits that really have made an impact in their business model. It is the strong relationships that the teachers have built with parents that have really shaped the future and motivation of the teachers.

Another lesson that the Rocketship Education has learned is the fact that there has a lot to be said about the racial discrimination that the government seems to portray in terms of children and parents choosing schools.

About Rocketship Education

Rocketship Education is a non-profit network of public charter schools that aim to serve disadvantaged youth across the nation. Rocketship Education wants to clarify that it is welcome to all kids, regardless or race, creed or class. It is their value for diversity that makes their system work, and the fact that it is able to function by doing so means that it knows what it is doing and where it is going.

Chris Linkas Notes Important Areas Where Professional and Private Investors Differ in Industry Knowledge

To help narrow the gap between what the Wall Street pros know and what outsiders to the industry do not, Chris Linkas, the European Head of Credit at Fortress Investment Group shares the knowledge he has gained through years of financial industry experience locating opportunistic investments in European markets.

For instance, many individuals believe that certain steady growth companies such as utility sector firms are immune to the declines of more speculative, riskier investments. Linkas points out that fears related to interest rate hikes have resulted in price declines of nearly 15 percent in those “safe investment” stocks, pointing to Fortris, Inc. and Enbridge, Inc. as two recent examples.

Additionally, there is a skill that professional investors have in their ability to distance themselves emotionally from their investments, which benefit private investors as well. One particular area where individuals can hinder their wealth growing efforts is by vowing to never again invest in some company, let’s call it XYZ, after taking a sizable loss on it.

Linkas points out a case where Avigilon was dropped from a model portfolio after several quarters of missing their earnings targets ( However, Avigilon experienced a down the road reversal in their performance and it became an attractive growth opportunity again.

A later investment in the stock returned $27/share as an acquisition bonus.

Another area where private investors’ information diverges from their financial industry counterparts is with regards to the effect that upcoming events have on the price (Kirkland). A lot of short term investors use the momentum generated by hype and rumor to churn a quick buck and move onto their next trade.

Individuals who acquire stocks based on a positive upcoming news event may find themselves disappointed by the drop in share price once the news is made public.

This principle extends to all types of news, with mergers and buyouts being at the top of the list.

Lastly, Chris Linkas points out that many private investors may be disheartened to learn that even with all of their years of training, news subscriptions and analysis that professional investors at major institutions don’t know everything.

The pros make plenty of costly mistakes and can be a victim to beliefs that blind them and keep them locked into losing positions.

There’s a saying on Wall Street that you’re only as good as your last trade. A principle understood by every professional investor.

Dr. David Samadi on Dealing with Prostate Cancer

Dr. David Samadi is of the opinion that the first step to dealing with cancer is staging it. Once this is completed, what follows is finding out whether the cancer has spread beyond the prostate. Considering this has been established, he recommends that the patient considers surgery over radiation. In his experience, most patients that have undergone surgery as a result of prostate cancer recover successfully, unlike most radiation treatment cases. Surgery and radiation are the main methods of treatment for prostate cancer. However, it is essential to understand the pros and cons of the two before choosing which route to take.

This disease is one of many that have affected political figures. Mitt Romney was running for the presidency a Republican nominee but the news of his health problems cut short his dreams. He was operated on in 2017 and recovered successfully. Colin Powell is also another national figure that had to undergo prostate cancer surgery. John Kerry was also diagnosed with the same disease in 2002, a time when he was vying for the presidency. All these politicians chose surgery over radiation and have not experienced recurrence ever since.

In 2018, Mitt Romney is looking to get into the Senate. With Utah’s representative retiring, Mitt aged 71 is likely to succeed Orrin Hatch. Mitt was transparent about his health status before the elections and mentioned how the slow-growing tumor held him back. However, most people have taken this news as a way of reintroducing himself as relevant in the political scene. His surgery was done at UC Irvine Hospital based in California. The doctor in charge, Thomas Ahlering, said that the surgery was successful.

The American Cancer Society has reported that 2017 saw 161,360 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Most of these men were over 60 years old. The society has projected the possibility of at least 164,000 cases in 2018. The society also mentioned that the average age for men that are diagnosed with prostate cancer was 66. Out of every 10 men that were diagnosed with this disease, at least six of them were 60 years old and above.

Dr. Samadi was born in Iran but later on immigrated to Belgium due to the Iranian Revolution. Since his childhood, he desired to become a doctor and so moving to the U.S. in 1984 was a chance to prove himself. He is currently the chairperson and lead surgeon of the Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery one of the best hospitals in the country, Lenox Hill Hospital.

End Citizens United Announces Support Of Campaign Finance Reformist Conor Lamb

There is a special election being held in Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district. The Republican contender for this seat is Rick Saccone who has been extensively supported by outside spending groups. The Democrat contender is Conor Lamb. End Citizens United recently announced their endorsement of Conor Lamb as he has committed to doing his part to pass sensible campaign spending legislation. End Citizens United is opposed to the big money that is flowing into politics and backs candidates who feel the same way.

The special election vote will occur on March 13. The seat is open because the prior occupant, Republican Tim Murphy, resigned from Congress after it was revealed that he had been cheating on his wife with another woman. He also had asked her to have an abortion after fighting for years against abortion rights.

The president of End Citizens United, Tiffany Miller, said that the people of Pennsylvania have gotten sick of the rigged system in Washington D.C. She said that special interests were trying to buy Rick Saccone a seat and the supporters of her political action committee were dedicated to fighting back against this.

In 2010, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a ruling that removed the amount of political spending that corporations and wealthy people could spend on politics. This is the court case that End Citizens United is named after because they ultimately want a constitutional amendment to put back in place sensible campaign financing restrictions. End Citizens United only accepts money from small-dollar contributors from across the United States.

When it was announced that End Citizens United was endorsing him, Conor Lamb committed to not accepting any PAC money that came from corporate executives. Because unions are funded by the individuals that make it up he will continue to accept that sort of donations. He went on to say that the system of government is broken and one of the main reasons why is because of how messed up our campaign finance system now is.

Rick Saccone, on the other hand, is accepting a lot of money and support from corporate executives outside of the state of Pennsylvania. One example is 45Committee which is made up of Donald Trump supporters. They bought $500,000 worth of ad time and are using it to run negative spots against Conor Lamb. Another $1,000,000 is being spent by another similar PAC called Ending Spending.
