George Soros, Glenn Beck and the Politics of Misrepresentation

George Soros is a multi-billionaire financier who is known for his remarkable success as a stock and currency trader. He is also an unapologetic liberal philanthropist and political activist, and he is a favorite target of the alt right and similar conservative movements. One of these attacks came in the form of a trio of television episodes created by conservative pundit and talk show host Glenn Beck. They aired on the Fox cable network in 2010.

Henddrick Hertzberg, senior editor for “The new Yorker” magazine, took strong exception to Beck’s portrayal of George Soros at the time. In an article titled “Puppetry,” Hertzberg takes Beck to task for misrepresenting material borrowed from an earlier “New Yorker” article written by Connie Bruck to imply Soros was a Nazi collaborator in occupied Hungary during World War II. Hertzberg also states that Beck deliberately painted a false picture of Soros for his conservative viewers.

What did Beck say that was so objectionable? He alleges that George Soros used faked documents to enable him to pass information about Jews to the Nazis. This strains credulity, given that Soros was all of 14 years old at the end of the war. The “fake documents” were forged identity papers obtained by the boy’s father and used to conceal the family’s Jewish heritage. In another response to Beck, published in “The Daily Beast,” Kati Marton points out that young George acted as a courier for the Jewish community. He carried messages and his father’s advice and warnings to could to evade and escape the Nazis.

Following the war, George Soros left Hungary for England. He eventually graduated from the prestigious London School of Economics. In the early 1950s, he emigrated to the United State, where he settled in New York along with his parents. Soros soon displayed amazing talent as a securities and currency trader on Forbes. In 1992 he became a virtual legend by scoring a profit exceeding $1 billion in a single day by correctly anticipating the devaluation of the British pound. In 2010 he was ranked as the 35th wealthiest person in the world.

Beck’s portrayal of the adult Soros is as questionable as it is negative. He alleges that Soros is a greedy manipulator engaged in a project of globalist in the pursuit of more and more wealth. Soros, Beck claims, helped undermine governments by financing various uprisings, including the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, Rose Revolution in the country of Georgia and the Orange Revolution in the Ukraine. What Beck does not tell his viewers is that each of these uprisings was a peaceful movement aimed at removing the puppet communist regimes imposed by the Soviet Union. The reality is that Soros played an important role in ending Soviet rule and winning freedom for millions of people. Marton points out that his role was so pivotal that he is sometimes considered one of four people who brought down the U.S.S.R., along with Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. One can’t help but think that if Beck had told the whole story, his viewers would have ended up admiring George Soros, not despising him.

Sweetgreen Redefines a Healthy Lifestyle

When three graduates Jonathan Neman, Nicholas Jemmet, and Nathaniel Ru sat down in Georgetown to wonder what they were meant to do after graduation, they had no idea that they would control one of the off-putting startups in America. The Washington-based whole and hip farm-to-table salad chain started with its first shop in Georgetown. The company was funded by over 40 friends and family members. They have over 31 stores in the country with a vision to make them 40 by next year. They also have completed a three-round venture capital-funding activity that has raised over $95 million. Peter Elion, of Bloomberg Reserve, had an interview with the co-Chief Executive Officer and co-founder James through Sweetgreens video office in Washington, D.C.

All of them come from an entrepreneurial background. We didn’t have an appealing look like a startup. None of their investors wanted to fund us. However, they managed to prove them wrong with our immense success. Jammet’s parents ventured into the food industries founding the world-famous La Caravelle Champagnes. Nathaniel and Jonathan too, although their parents were not in the food industry, were also entrepreneurs in their respective fields. While still in college, they never wanted to create the brand. Therefore, their desire was to build their venture in many ways. They also wanted to find a healthier food in the town in their proper way.

They had the necessary discipline. While the salad foods were not the best option for a nutritious meal, they had a million ideas about how to disconnect the remaining brands in the market. They still look at their original business brand. When we were selling a dream to people to fund us, the plan of activities helped them.

The company pitch has never changed. They keep adding to it. However much they sell a lettuce leaf, they sell a set of values that mean business. They portray a high degree of professionalism in the way they hire people, in the food served, in the forms they run, and the way stores are built. The people had great opportunities from their startup. They kept hitting each other with solid ideas for brainstorming. When we look at our previous business plan, our supporters offered a lending hand because they believed in its workability. That is all about the life of an entrepreneur. For this reason, a better belief in passion and success is the best thing that can happen to us.

Sweetgreen is a U.S.-based chain of casual restaurants. They serve seasonal, healthy, and simple food. The company was founded by three principals Jonatham Neman, Nicholas Jammet, and Nathaniel Ru after the graduation ceremony. They studied business administration at the University of Georgetown. The company has more than 64 stores in the country. According to reliable sources, it has covered many states in America including Maryland, New York, and Massachusetts.

Chris Burch On The Fusion of Fashionable Technology

As the world revolves, fashion and technology have evolved. A part of this natural progression has been the fusion of fashion trends with technological advances. Christopher Burch, veteran fashion retailer and owner of Burch Creative Capital, discusses what kind of changes have already occurred and what trends can be expected in the future; with the fashion industry merging with the technical industry.

Burch addresses the current surge of interest in wearable technology, by taking a look back at past trends. Beginning in the 1970s, he says that hip-hop culture with its big, booming beat boxes changed the way people played music. First users were content with just hearing music from local radio stations while traveling. Then starting in the 80s and 90s, there was a transition to recording personalized versions of music and creating storylines.

Before long people started dressing like breakdancers and hip-hop artists. And suddenly, it was no longer a cultural phenomenon, because quickly young people from all walks of life, thought it was fashionable to wear loose, baggy clothes and colorful emblems as everyday outfits.

Consequently, Burch says there was a further intertwining of fashion and technology, as designers sought creative expression through “Avante Garde” designs. One important influence during this time period was young Dutch designer, Anouk Wipprecht. Wipprecht saw the connection between fashion and technology as something to be imparted into fun, funky clothing. She went on to create a drinking making dress and a self-painting dress, as a result.

Christopher Burch is the ex-husband of successful fashion icon, Tory Burch. In 2013, he was added to Forbes’ annual list of billionaires. Burch helped launch his ex-wife’s brand in 2004. But, he is a man of many different hats; a serial entrepreneur with several companies, including a preppy retail outlet, the wireless charging solution, Powermat, an office store, which sells outlandish and unusual office supplies, and he owns several properties with homes in the Hamptons, Indonesia, and Nantucket Island.

At first glance, Burch looks like a “gentle” man of leisure. He has maintained an active interest in the fashion world since the inception of his ex-wife’s flagship store. Not only is he involved with multiple businesses as a self-made billionaire; he also has two adult daughters, who recently launched their own fashion businesses. In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Christopher Burch also continues to author numerous articles, related to fashion, business and creativity.

Norka Luque’s Message of Hope and Love Through Her Music

Famous Latino singers such as Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan and Shakira have crossed the musical industry with their legendary music. There is always something magical behind the Latino music; it improves one’s spirit and creates a dance to dance. Besides her successful music career, Luque is admired for her courage even in adversity. In 2007, she had a setback when she was diagnosed with epilepsy.
